If you ever find yourself wandering around Maplewick looking for somewhere quiet, there’s a good chance you’ll find Sophie nearby.
Sophie is 10 years old and is happiest with a book in her hands, a curious question in her head, and somewhere peaceful to sit and think.
She’s the sort of girl who notices things that other people might walk straight past.
A strange mark on an old sign.
A bird behaving oddly.
A door that’s usually locked but happens to be open.
A story about something that happened in Maplewick fifty years ago.
And, of course, she wants to know why.
Sophie loves learning, but she isn’t the sort of person who needs to be the centre of attention. She’d much rather curl up somewhere cosy and quietly discover something interesting.
Her red hair and green headband make her easy to spot around the village, although you’ll probably notice the book she’s carrying before you notice her!
Sophie and April are in fact sisters, despite being rather different. While April is usually racing off towards the next adventure, Sophie is often the one stopping to ask questions and work out exactly what’s going on.
Which is probably quite useful when you live somewhere like Maplewick…
Because in this village, there always seems to be something to discover.
