If you’re looking for a good coffee in Maplewick, there’s a fair chance Finn Quill will be the one making it.
Finn is the barista at the village coffee shop, and he has developed a particular talent for remembering exactly what everyone orders — even when they insist they don’t have a regular.
He’s quick-witted, quietly cheeky and has a dry sense of humour that occasionally catches people off guard.
Finn doesn’t say a lot just for the sake of talking. He tends to watch what’s going on, listen to people and then come out with one perfectly timed comment.
Being the son of Beatrice Quill, he has grown up around Maplewick and knows the village well. He has also learned that village life comes with plenty of characters, stories and the occasional bit of drama.
The coffee shop gives him an excellent view of it all.
He sees who comes in first thing in the morning, who is avoiding someone else, who has something exciting to announce and who is pretending they definitely don’t need another coffee.
Finn notices.
He just doesn’t always comment.
The coffee shop is his little corner of Maplewick, and he’s quite happy there. He enjoys the rhythm of the work, the familiar faces and the occasional quiet moment when he can experiment with a new coffee.
And if someone complains that their coffee isn’t strong enough?
Finn will probably raise an eyebrow, make another one and quietly wonder how they managed to survive the morning in the first place.
He’s still Beatrice Quill’s son.
But Finn is very much becoming his own character in Maplewick.
